Devil’s Bowl Speedway Dirt Track Opener Rained Out

Two-day Memorial Day Weekend special up next

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Mother Nature picked up her first win of the season at The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, May 22, as inclement weather cancelled the opening event. Showers held off until the around 4:00 p.m., then intermittent sprinkles turned into steady rain just before 5:30 p.m. The event was scheduled to be the first-ever NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned date on the 3/10-mile Dirt Track.

The race was also the first “Tribute Series” date, recognizing important figures from Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s past. Mert “Socks” Hulbert, the inaugural Devil’s Bowl champion in 1967, was in attendance with two of his restored racecars. A future date to honor Hulbert will be announced.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s next event will be on the half-mile Asphalt Track on Saturday, May 28 to kick off a big two-day holiday weekend. Yorkmont Auto Auctions will host the “Yorkmont Memorial Day 5000” with a jam-packed event; one race fan who participates in the Yorkmont contest will win $5,000 cash. The night also features a fireworks show and racing in the Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds, the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Models, the Rosen & Berger Renegades, and the Portland Glass Mini Stocks.

On Sunday, May 29, the Dirt Track will host its new season opener, as the winged Sprint Cars of New England make their first appearance of the year. They’ll join the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modifieds, the Rosen & Berger Renegades, and the Portland Glass Mini Stocks.

Even with the extra action, regular general admission pricing is effect on both nights at $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (62+) and students (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. on both nights with racing beginning at 6:00 p.m.
