Gray Wins Devil’s Bowl Enduro Series Opener (Full Finish)

Next Enduro race scheduled for August 2

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Clarendon, Vt.’s Cory “Cubby” Gray grabbed the sixth Enduro Series win of his career at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, July 12. The race was an entertaining 50-lap run that started 33 junkyard-stock cars, pickup trucks, station wagons, and even a Chrysler PT Cruiser with wood panel trim.

Gray drew the 11th starting position and was in the lead by lap 4 in the survival-of-the-fittest race. He rebounded from a collision on lap 27 that spun his well-used Nissan Maxima sideways, briefly giving up the lead to Fair Haven, Vt.’s Chris Lussier. Gray, who won two Enduro Series titles when the class was a regular championship division at the speedway, regained the top spot and led the final 21 laps; he won $400 for his efforts.

Lussier finished second as the only other driver to complete all 50 laps, winning $200. Jeff Smith of Rutland, Vt., was third, one lap off the pace, for a $100 prize. Matt Wade finished fourth, one lap down, and Lynn Sumner was fifth, two laps back; each earned $50. The top 10 was completed, in order, by Eric Leno, Norman Morrill, Xander Stillwell, Jonathan Mason, and Rich Rose.

Only one red flag stopped the race, which was completed in 27 minutes. The next Enduro Series event, which will again be 50 laps, has been scheduled for Sunday, August 2. Enduro Series rules and entry forms are available at www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com/rules.
