Northern Modified Challenge Series Point Fund Increased Before Canaan Finale

Champion owner to earn $1,000; total Top 10 purse raised by 50%

CANAAN, NH – Top competitors from the Northern Modified Challenge Series have received a boost in their inaugural season-ending awards purse. The first-year stock car racing championship’s baseline point fund has been increased by 50 percent from its previously announced total.

Sanctioned by Devil’s Bowl Speedway, the Northern Modified Challenge Series is a unique short track championship tour utilizing center-seat, dirt-style Modified cars on both asphalt and dirt tracks. Events have been held on asphalt tracks at Devil’s Bowl in West Haven, VT, Thunder Road in Barre, VT, and New Hampshire’s Canaan Fair Speedway. The finale will be the Charlie Elliott Memorial “OctoberFast 100” on October 19 run at the flat, quarter-mile Canaan Dirt Speedway adjacent to the asphalt track.

Up to $3,000 will be distributed the Top 10 finishers in the NMCS Owners Championship; the point fund had been previously announced as a $2,000 total. For Top 10 teams that compete in all five events the champion owner will receive $1,000 and the runner-up will win $500. Third place pays $300, fourth place $250, fifth place $200, and the balance of the Top 10 will receive $150 each. Should a team that has competed in only four of the five events finish in the Top 10, the car owner will earn 80% of the posted purse; teams running in three events will win 60% of the purse.

With a tight championship battle and a large amount of entries expected for the OctoberFast event, point distribution will be limited to only the current Top 20 NMCS drivers and owners attending the race. With the top five in both the driver and owner standings separated by just 11 points, the move is designed to lessen any impact that new competitors may have on the title race. As an extra bonus, any regular NMCS competitor who wins the race will receive an additional $500 on top of the posted $2,500 top prize.

Driver Vince Quenneville, Jr. and owner John Danyow’s No. 78 car lead the NMCS standings over Jessey Mueller and owner Billy Mueller’s No. 19 car by just a single point. Joe Williams’ No. 55L is third in both driver and owner standings just three points behind, with Hunter Bates and owner Marc Bates’ No. 69 car just seven points back. Ron Proctor and owner Debbie Eddy have their No. 27 car only 11 points out.

“We couldn’t have predicted a more exciting finish to the inaugural Northern Modified Challenge Series season, and we’re happy to be adding more point fund money for the teams that have supported it,” NMCS Director Mike Bruno said. “We’re really looking forward to crowning our first champion at Canaan.”

The OctoberFast event is scheduled to be the final race ever held at the historic two-track Canaan Fairgrounds complex. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 19.
