Invader from LongIsland wins first Vermonster
WEST HAVEN, VT – MitchPatern of Southold NY made the long haul from Long Island to Devil’s BowlSpeedway pay off with a big win in Sunday’s Vermonster enduro. After 150 laps ofracing on a beautiful fall day, Patern walked away with $1,500 for his firstplace finish. The win was given to Patern after the apparent first placefinisher was observed removing an illegal rearview mirror from his windshieldafter taking the checkers. Second place was then awarded to Josh Masterson ofBristol Vermont, and third place to local Duane Pease of Fair Haven Vermont. Anice field of 45 enduro cars began the race, which had its share of squealingbrakes, the crunch of metal and one scary fire which was put out safely andquickly by the fire crew.
The BestDecorated Car with a Vermont Theme went to the cow-hide covered car of Jim Woodfrom Queensbury NY. Unfortunately, this was also the car attended to by the firecrew later on in the race. Second place in the decoration contest went to JamesCarmichael of Whiting VT, who fielded a very nice two-sided Vt State Trooper/GameWarden paint job.
