Rutland business steps up for 50th season, will continue 50/50 raffle
CENTER RUTLAND, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s family of sponsors and marketing partners continues to step up for the track’s 50th season of stock car racing in 2016. Longtime Rutland-area staple Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers and Scrap Metals will sponsor the intermediate Renegade division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series on both the half-mile asphalt and 3/10-mile dirt tracks at Devil’s Bowl, and will continue its support of the speedway’s 50/50 raffle.
In an era of racing where many speed items can be store-bought, the Rosen & Berger Renegades are a throwback with many entries based on the 1980s Chevrolet Monte Carlo and similar models. Many cars utilize the General Motors “602” crate engine option, though homebuilt engines are permitted and remain competitive. The action is intense with straightaway speeds topping 100 miles per hour, and there’s no love lost in the corners as cars rub fenders and bounce off of each other regularly.
The asphalt championship race is wide open with three-time title winner Robert Gordon scaling back his schedule. That leaves veterans Scott FitzGerald, Jimmy Bushey, and Jim McKiernan as favorites for the crown, along with 2015 rookie of the year Matt Monaghan. On the dirt, Darrell Older is expected to defend his title, but he’ll have to face Matt Mosher, Curtis Condon, and multi-time Devil’s Bowl champion Bill Duprey. As the division sees new growth in 2016, several rookies are expected to compete on each surface.
Family owned and operated since 1938, Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers and Scrap Metals is located on Route 4A in Center Rutland, Vt., just minutes from Downtown Rutland. Rosen & Berger stocks thousands of parts for virtually all makes and models, both foreign and domestic. Rosen & Berger also buys salvage vehicles and sells rebuildables.
