Short Track Super Series Invades Slate Valley for Fathers Day

WEST HAVEN, V.T. – The Short Track Super Series big and small block modifieds are ready to rumble in the Green Mountains this Sunday, June 18th, bringing the Northeast’s biggest racing stars for a $10,000-to-win tussle at New England’s Fastest Dirt Track.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary season since their 2013 inception, the series renewed its agreement with Devil’s Bowl Speedway to visit Fathers’ Day weekend for the second year in a row following a successful first trip to Vermont in 2022 when Matt Sheppard picked up the win and the big payday. He led every lap after redrawing the pole position. Mat Williamson finished 2nd after dueling with 3rd place finisher Demetrios Drellos in and out of lapped traffic for virtually the entire race.

Williamson currently leads the STSS North Region point standings by 10 markers over Sheppard. Bohemia, N.y. youngster Dillon Steuer is third in the standings followed by Anthony Perrego and Marc Johnson. Stewart Friesen and a host of other modified madmen are set to join them in a battle for the ages. The Slate Valley 50 is the 4th race on the 2023 STSS River Valley Builders North Region schedule, which is comprised of 12 events, including the series’ first visit to Canada at Le RPM Speedway next month.

The race drew 32 cars last year including New England drivers CG Morey, Neil Stratton, Adam Pierson and Tanner Siemons. Siemons, Stratton and Pierson qualified for the race, finishing 16th, 26th and 20th, respectfully. Another New England favorite making a splash in his return to racing expected to enter Sunday’s race is Dave Camara, driving Wes Moody’s #24 machine. The mount sports a fresh engine that Camara recently used to lead more than 20 laps of a feature race at Fonda.

In the event of unfavorable weather, a rain date has been placed on Sunday August 6th. The make-up race would take the place of the currently scheduled ‘Battle at The Bowl,’ big and small block modified challenge race in its 5th year running.

Devil’s Bowl divisions will also be in action with the Sunoco Crate Modifieds having a 40-lap, $2,000-to-win contest. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Limiteds and Mini Stocks will join the card to round off a full day of racing, showcasing the track’s weekly starts in front of the massive crowd and for the masses watching at home on FloRacing.

Racing begins at 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, June 18th. The pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. and the grandstands at 4:00. The Drivers’ Meeting is scheduled for 4:30 with practice to follow at 5:00 p.m.

General admission is just $30 and Infield Drive-In parking is available for $35. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit pass fees are $45 for everyone Sunday.
