WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway will try again to get its 57th season of stock car racing underway on Saturday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. The 2023 opener was postponed one week by wet weather, but the long-term weekend forecast looks to be nearly perfect for the $3,000-to-win Sportsman Modified 30-lapper and a full, six-division card of action.
The headline Sportsman Modified class will kick off with a big-money “draw” handicap format, giving everyone a fair shot at the opening night victory. Tim LaDuc, Vince Quenneville, and Frank Hoard III will each try to reclaim their former championship crown, while drivers like Justin Comes, Tanner Siemons, and veteran Jimmy Ryan each seek their first title in the top-level division. They’ll be joined by a field full of talented stars from Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire running for the $3,000 payday.
The Limited Sportsman and Novice Sportsman divisions will give fans a glimpse into the future of the sport as new Modified competitors test the waters and build their notebooks. The 500cc Mini Sprint class mixes raw rookie teenagers with cagey veterans and everyone in between, while the four-cylinder Mini Stocks and the brand new Crown Vic division provide great racing, a few wild crashes, and an economical starting point for entry-level racers.
The Novice Sportsman class, now in its second year, will run for weekly points and a season champion for the first time, while the Crown Vics – Ford Crown Victorias, many of which are former police cars and taxi cabs – run their first-ever race on Saturday night.
Racing on Saturday, May 6 begins at 6:00 p.m. Grandstand general admission is $15 for adults and free for children aged 12 and under. Infield drive-in parking is also available for $20 per person. Pit area passes are $28 for members and $38 for non-members; the minimum age in the pit area is 10 years old, per Vermont state law.
